Contemporary artist, JD Miller, combines chromatic expression with a sculptor's application of paint to create multi-dimensional images on canvas. The result is an emotional explosion of 3-D sculptural oils that create a unique mood and signature ambiance. Traveling extensively throughout the United States, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Cayman Islands, and Mexico, he creates everything from expressionistic landscapes to abstract reflections of the human spirit. The early basis for his visual style was formed by emulating the vivid colors and deft lines of the cartoon masters, Walt Disney and Walter Lance.
In his early years, Miller studied the guitar, trumpet, and piano, playing nightclubs when he was sixteen and eventually became a studio musician by the time he was eighteen. Following a B.S. degree from the University of North Texas, he apprenticed in sculpture and ceramics with master sculptor, John Miller, at Texas Women's University. While advancing his artistic techniques, he also studied oil painting with master colorist, Liz Richardson, for two years before beginning his professional painting career in 1998. In October of 2004, he founded the "Reflectionists", a group of artists whose work mirrors the positive power of life and of the universe. By applying the philosophic principles of "Reflectionism" towards his artwork, Miller has transformed the landscape of oil painting. Recognition of his 3-D oil technique has become widely acknowledged by both artists and collectors alike.
"I call myself a reflectionist artist because I believe that the universe mirrors each of us in a unique way. My goal as an artist is to interpret that phenomenon, and my art is a multi-dimensional reflection of life and the way I perceive the world". - JD Miller
Miller presently works and resides in Dallas. His work is featured and permanently on display at Samuel Lynne Galleries, which he co-owns with Gallery Artist and Business Partner, Philip J. Romano.
